Los Angeles
Los Angeles or the "City of Angels" is also known as the Entertainment Capital of the World and is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the United States. Most tourists visit the city in hope to see their favorite stars, to gaze up on the famous Hollywood sign in the Santa Monica Mountains and to walk the Hollywood Walk of Fame. However, the City of Angels offers much more than glitz and glamour of Hollywood. The city will not disappoint you whether you want to relax or have fun, go sightseeing or visit outstanding entertainment attractions which can not be found anywhere else in the world. Los Angeles truly offers unique urban vacations and one of a kind experience.
Hollywood is definitely the main attraction of the Entertainment Capital of the World. In addition to the Hollywood sign on the Santa Monica Mountains and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the most famous neighborhood west-northwest of Downtown Los Angeles attracts millions of visitors with numerous attractions including the Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios Hollywood, Grauman's Chinese Theatre and Grauman's Egyptian Theatre, Charlie Chaplin Studios, El Capitan Theatre, Hollywood Wax Museum, Hollywood Forever Cemetery, The Magic Castle and several other sites which are closely tied to the world of rich and famous and the film industry in one way or another. Hollywood is also home to the Griffith Observatory which amongst others also offers a magnificent view of Downtown Los Angeles dominated by impressive skyline that is among the largest skylines in the United States.
Downtown Los Angeles is best known for its splendid architecture which besides impressive skyscrapers such as the U. S. Bank Tower and the Los Angeles City Hall includes some of the most outstanding architectural landmarks. Make sure you visit the Bradbury Building, Los Angeles Union Station and the Los Angeles Plaza Historic District all of which have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Downtown Los Angeles is also home to several fine museums including Chinese American Museum, Japanese American Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art. North of the Museum of Contemporary Art is the Los Angeles Music Center, one of the largest performing arts centers in the country which also includes the spectacular Walt Disney Concert Hall which serves as home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
Sports fans have great opportunity to see several professional teams. Baseball fans can catch the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Dodger Stadium adjacent to the Downtown Los Angeles, while basket fans can catch the Los Angeles Lakers playing at the Staples Center. The multi-purpose arena which is located in Figueroa Street in Downtown Los Angeles is also home to another NBA team – the Los Angeles Clippers as well as the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL). If you are into sports you will also enjoy the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum which hosted Olympic Games two times, in 1932 and 1984 and was declared a National Historic Landmark.
